With the Josephine N° 9 carafe, function meets elegance.

The tall, slender shape is ideal for separating older wines from their sediment while minimizing oxygen exposure due to the small surface area. Young white wines or table water can be elegantly presented in this graceful carafe, making it a stylish addition to your glassware set.

Designed to hold a standard wine bottle, the carafe fits easily into any standard refrigerator door, keeping your white or rosé wine perfectly chilled.

Know-How

Decanting vs. Carafing

When decanting, a mature wine or one with lees is separated from its sediment to prevent it from ending up in the glass and diminishing the wine’s enjoyment.

The purpose of carafing is to aerate a wine by pouring it into a vessel with a larger surface area, allowing it to interact more quickly with oxygen. The focus here is on removing undesirable aromatic components (through evaporation) and transforming structural and aromatic compounds (through oxidation). Carafing is especially beneficial for wines that have not yet reached their full aging potential, as it helps accelerate their development.

Another reason — often underestimated — for transferring a wine into a different vessel is the visually striking presentation of special wines.

Our Use of the Terms “Decanter” & “Carafe”

From a purely functional perspective, our decanter should technically be called a carafe, and vice versa—since we use the decanter for carafing (aerating) and the carafe for decanting (separating sediment). In practice, however, the terms decanter and carafe are often used synonymously and without distinction.

As a brand, our philosophy is to keep enjoyment simple and approachable, not overly complicated or dogmatic. That’s why we’ve chosen to name our products in line with the more common usage of these terms.

Sensory excellence

Experience glasses that uniquely enhance the taste and aromas of wine.

The Josephine is a purely handcrafted and mouth-blown glass that stands out for its sensory qualities. Thanks to its distinctive kink, the wine absorbs more oxygen and reveals its full range of nuances. The extremely thin-walled, flexible glass feels light and balanced in the hand, delivering the wine’s aromas to the nose and palate with the finest subtleties.

Traditional craftsmanship

Each Josephine glass is a mouth-blown and handcrafted unique piece.

The Josephine Collection, produced in the finest glassworks of Europe, is fundamentally different from machine-made glasses. It represents the fusion of traditional glassmaking craftsmanship and innovative design. Each glass is mouth-blown and crafted through a series of meticulous steps that demand extensive experience, skill, and the utmost concentration from master glassmakers. With great attention to detail, this process creates delicate yet durable glasses—designed for an unparalleled wine experience.
