I loved being in the mountains early in the morning. I had set out at dawn, while darkness still blanketed the valleys, yet the first rays of the rising sun had already grazed the distant mountaintops. A delicate pink, almost coppery, had spread over the peaks, signaling the promise of a beautiful day.
