Inspired by historical glassmaking craftsmanship
Our inspiration is the former Josephinenhütte, a Silesian glassworks founded in 1842 in the Krkonoše Mountains by Count Leopold von Schaffgotsch. He named it after his beloved wife, Josephine.
Franz Pohl, the glassmaker and director of the Josephinenhütte, was a brilliant inventor and artistic visionary who explored the limits of what was considered possible in glassmaking. His creations showcased exceptional technical finesse and perfect beauty, establishing the historic Josephinenhütte as one of the most significant glassworks in Europe and the New World.
A century later, fate brings the success story of the Josephinenhütte to an end, and its once-brilliant legacy fades into obscurity over the decades. Ultimately, the historic Josephinenhütte ceases to exist.

The new Josephinenhütte
In 2019, three friends who share a deep appreciation for authentic craftsmanship were captivated by the visionary strength of the historic Josephinenhütte and decided to revive the brand. Its innovative spirit serves as a model and inspiration, driven by the ambition to elevate the wine experience to a new level. The creative force behind the new Josephinenhütte is Kurt Josef Zalto, a sixth-generation glassmaker and one of the most talented glass designers of our time. For Josephinenhütte, he designs glasses that open up new dimensions of flavor.
Today, the Josephine collection symbolizes the highest art of glassmaking for all those who seek the best.
